She-ra: The Princess of Power Chapter 5Chapter 5: The Castle Adora, Glimmer and Bow were making their way through the forests. They were mostly silent; a whole night had passed since they escaped the Fright Zone, and the sun was beginning to rise. The three rode on top of Spirit, thankful that the large and strong horse was able to carry all of them. "So, where exactly are we going?" Adora asked, "Spirit's getting tired." "Not much further. Just a little...wait, I think I see it." Bow said, he and Glimmer dismounted the horse and ran off, Adora following behind while guiding Spirit by the bridles. She followed them to an open area of forest, and froze in place when she saw the massive structure in the middle of the clearing. It was a castle, a gigantic and elegant castle. Adora had never seen such an ornate building in her life. The pink marble, the gold decorations, and a glistening rainbow bridge between them and the front gate. It was almost overwhelming. "What...what is this place?" Adora asked "Castle Brightmoon," Glimmer said, "Ever since the Horde came to Etheria, it's been the main base of The Great Rebellion." Adora was amazed, she had heard of Brightmoon but never imagined it looking like this. The group walked across the bridge to the front gates. "Glimmer!" yelled a voice; a woman with large angelic wings flew down to them with a worried look as she landed and hugged Glimmer tightly. Adora pieced together who this woman had to be, Angella, rebellion leader and queen of Brightmoon. "Mom!" Glimmer smiled, hugging Angella back. "I had heard you were captured, I was so worried about you!" Glimmer's mother said, concern audible in her voice. "I'm fine, Mom. Bow and I managed to escape thanks to Adora here." Glimmer said, gesturing towards Adora, who was standing there rather awkwardly with Spirit. "Um...hi there. I'm Adora. Your daughter convinced me to leave the Horde and join the Rebellion." Adora said, feeling nervous given how she had been part of the greatest enemy of the Rebels just earlier today, and now she was standing in front of the Rebel leader. It did not help that she was gorgeous, with her majestic wings and beautiful starlight hair. "Is that so?" Angella asked, raising an eyebrow at this stranger. "Yeah, and that's not all. Watch," Glimmer said excitedly as she ran next to Adora, "Okay, Adora, do the thing." "Uh...the thing?" Adora asked confused. "You know, with the sword." Glimmer said, pointing at the weapon. "Oh right, yeah, the sword. Alright." Adora said before clearing her throat and lifting up the sword. "For the Honor of Grayskull!" she shouted before the sword transformed her into She-ra. Angella looked on in amazement at the Princess of Power. "You... you're She-ra..." Angella said in shock and awe "Yep... I'm She-ra. I only really found out yesterday. I know about the legends surrounding me and...can't really promise I'll live up to whatever they say about me, but I can assure you that I will fight alongside the Rebellion to free Etheria." She-ra said. She still wasn't sure about all this She-ra stuff, but what she was sure of was freeing Etheria from the Horde's tyranny. "Well...if what you say is true, then welcome to Brightmoon." Angella smiled. Adora could tell the queen still had her doubts about her, but she at least seemed willing to give her a chance. No doubt the idea of the legends of She-ra coming true contributed to that. It would mean a lot, not just for The Rebellion, but also the people of Etheria as a whole. "I'll show her a room." Glimmer said, leading Adora towards the entrance. As the two walked by, Angella noticed the burn mark on Glimmer's back. "Glimmer, what happened to you?" Angella gasped, reaching out to brush Glimmer's hair aside. "It's nothing, mom. Don't worry about it. Doesn't even hurt much anymore." Glimmer waved it off as she guided Adora into the castle. Angella sighed and watched her daughter bring this warrior of legend into Castle Brightmoon. In Shadow Weaver’s lair in the Frightzone, Catra was thinking over the mission Hordak had given her while Shadow Weaver tended to a bubbling cauldron. "So am I getting a squad or anything to track down Adora?" Catra asked Shadow Weaver "You may if you wish, but who is part of your squad is your responsibility. So I'd suggest you choose well." Shadow Weaver replied, Catra groaned and walked out. She started thinking of potential members for her team. "Hey Catra, have you seen, Zed? Nobody's seen him all morning." said Lonnie as she passed Catra. "I don't know, last time I saw him he was outside his room, maybe check there." Catra brushed Lonnie off as she kept walking. She then got an idea of who to recruit first. "So, did you hear about Adora? Hard to believe someone like her would leave, huh?" asked Grizzlor, the large bear man leaning on counter that Leech was sitting at. "Can't really say I expected that. What do you think is going to happen now?" Leech said. "Dunno." "You not knowing something. What a shock." Leech said sarcastically. "Oh whatever, man. You asked." Grizzlor huffed annoyed. "Grizzlor, Leech. Been looking for you." Catra said, walking up to the two, "Hordak and Shadow Weaver want me to find and capture Adora. So I'm organizing a squad that you two are joining." "Hmm...alright, I'll join." Leech said. "If he's joining, so am I." Grizzlor said. "Figured you would say, you copycat." "I'm not copying." Grizzlor said. "Then get to the back of the line." "You're cute, but I ain't budging. You'll have to fight me for my spot." Grizzlor smirked before he and Leech aggressively pressed their heads against each other. "I have no problem with that." Leech smirked. "Okay, glad we got that settled." Catra said brushing off the two. Grizzlor and Leech's behavior towards each other was just expected by everyone else. Catra made her way to Mantenna's room. The door opened, and she walked by several photos of Mantenna next to dead enemies on the wall. He liked to scan pictures of his favorite kills. Catra had to admit that some of these photos creeped her out. She then saw Mantenna tending to a flower garden in his quarters. Mantenna was someone who not many people in the Fright Zone got; he seemed to be a wild card if he would be sadistic and terrifying or calm and rather pleasant to talk to. "Oh, hello Catra. What can I do for you?" Mantenna asked "I'm building a squad to capture Adora and bring her back. Are you in?" "Hmm...depends; what kind of capture are we talking about here?" Mantenna said, watering his flowers. "I'd say the violent kind. She's joined the rebels, so there's probably gonna be a decent amount of death and violence. As long as Adora is taken in alive, we’ve got free reign." Catra replied. "Then I'm in." Catra smiled and walked out of the room, bumping into Scorpia's muscled body. "Hey Catra! I heard you were making your own squad. That sounds really cool! Can I join?" Scorpia asked excited. "Uh, I mean, I dunno..." Catra said, she had nothing against Scorpia, but sometimes how she acted could be...questionable, "...I mean, you could be useful b-" Before Catra could finish, Scorpia hugged her tightly, squeezing the air out of her lungs. "Aw, thanks! I can't wait to go on missions with you! We've never really had a chance to hang out together, so this will be great!" Scorpia smiled, and Catra simply sighed, wondering if Kyle was available instead. Elsewhere in the Fright Zone, Horde maintenance workers were cleaning up the mess that Adora had made hours before, trying to clear the debris from the collapsed tower off the ground. One of the workers was ready to plant an explosive charge to remove a chunk of metal wall, when a loud banging was heard. The noise continued until a significant dent was made into the wall, the startled worker stumbling back. The dent got bigger and bigger, before a giant fist punched a hole through the debris. Force Captain Kyle brought down the wall as he walked out of the wreckage, some scratches and dents in his armor, one of the eye lenses on his helmet cracked. "F-Force Captain Kyle, are you okay, sir?" the worker asked. "I'm fine." Kyle said calmly as he walked away from the scene, "I just need a medic." he said, downplaying the fact he had just punched his way out from underneath a collapsed guard tower. Adora followed Glimmer around the castle, a look of amazement on her face. She'd been taught that Etheria was some lawless wasteland before The Horde showed up; now, she was walking through the halls of the most pristine building she had ever seen. "Okay, here's your room." Glimmer said, showing Adora the room. Adora was in awe at the place. The huge fluffy bed, the long curtains, the large round window. Even as the princess of the Horde, her room back at the Frightzone was nothing like this. "The bathroom is to the right, if you need anything else, just let us know." "Wow...I...thank you." Adora said "No problem. A lot happened last night, so I understand if you'd like some rest. We can bring you up to speed about the Rebellion over dinner this evening." Glimmer said before leaving. Adora looked around, taking in her surroundings. She sat down on the bed; it was the softest thing she had ever felt. Kicking off her boots and putting her coat down on the nightstand, she laid down to try and sleep. But as seconds became minutes, and minutes became hours, Adora still hadn't fallen asleep yet. The memories of the night before kept running through her mind. Everything had happened so suddenly. One day she was the princess of the Horde, taking on her first mission to bring peace to Etheria. The next, she found out the 'peace' the Horde brought was a lie, and she abandoned all of her friends and family. The look on Catra's face when she transformed from She-ra back to her regular form was still clear in her mind. It hurt that Catra rejected her offer to join her, but she had to admit that Catra had a point. From her point of view, Adora's decision to leave the Horde must've come out of nowhere. And what about Zed? Adora hadn't even gotten a chance to talk to him before she ran off. The little guy must be so sad and confused right now. She let out a deep sigh as she sat up in bed. She looked at the clock beside her bed. It was almost noon. Deciding she wasn't going to get any rest anytime soon, she got out of bed and put her discarded clothes back on. She walked out of her room and started exploring the castle; it felt nothing like the cold and harsh feeling of the halls of the Frightzone. Instead, it was an awe-inspiring and ornate look to everything. She continued exploring around until she saw two women she didn't recognize in an outdoor garden of the castle. One had dark skin, an athletic body, and silver-blue hair, one side of it clearly shaved. She wore a short-sleeved white shawl, blue and silver vambraces, and boots with blue gems. Her outfit was primarily blue and silver, except for a pink necklace around her neck. The person next to her was a woman with light pink skin and a body frame she hadn't seen before with her military life. She had long lavender hair in a ponytail and wore a pink and purple outfit with a blue cape and silver necklace with a blue gem. "Um, hi there. I don't think we've met. I'm Adora. I'm new here." Adora greeted the two. "Hey. I'm Netossa." the first woman smiled and waved at Adora, "This is my wife, Spinnerella." "Hi there. Welcome to the Rebellion." Spinnerella smiled "So I take it you two are also members. I mean, I guess it would be weird if you were at the Rebellion's main base if you weren't part of it. I mean, why would you be here otherwise? And wow, I'm still talking..." Adora rambled nervously. "Hey, I get it." Netossa chuckled, "Yeah, Spinny and I have been part of the Rebellion for a while. You're that woman who became She-ra, right?" "Yeah, I am. Though I'd prefer if you call me Adora." Adora said, preferring to not have people her She-ra. "Of course, no problem." Spinerella said, "So, how is Brightmoon for you so far?" "It's...different. Very different than anything I've seen before. It's so...beautiful." "I suppose so. But you should drop by my principality if you want to really be impressed!" Netossa boasted. Spinerella rolled her eyes and playfully nudged her wife in the side. "That’s not to say we don’t appreciate our hostess’ generosity, right dear?" Spinerella smiled. "No, of course not. I’m just saying that there’s so much more for her to see besides Brightmoon. " Netossa corrected herself, making Spinerella giggle. Adora just chuckled awkwardly. The three continued to chat for a while, Adora trying not to talk about her past too much. That was something she herself hadn’t even really come to grips with. That evening, after almost getting lost in the castle’s winding halls, Adora eventually found her way to the castle's dining/planning room, where Angella, Glimmer, Bow, Netossa, and Spinerella were all sitting at a large round table. "Um, this is a pretty large table, but there aren't many people here; where's everyone else?" Adora asked confused "This is all, I'm afraid. The Rebellion used to be much bigger before disbanding years ago. Which is why I hope you can help convince the other kingdoms to re-join." Angella said. "Oh..." Adora said, taken aback by how small their group was right now. "I mean, me and Spinerella both got our own kingdoms so it’s not like its literally just the five of us, but yeah, we’re pretty outmatched at the moment." Netossa chimed in. "Now then, I believe the first of the rulers we need to convince to join the Rebellion is Prince Peekablue. He's the wealthiest man on Etheria, and he has the ability to see into the future. It might be difficult, as he’s usually very private and not too keen on unannounced guests. I’ve only met him twice myself. Luckily, he's having a party at his palace in Fowleria tomorrow night." Angella said "I’d like you to go there and persuade him to join the rebellion once more." "Bow and I can go with her." Glimmer said. "Absolutely not, Glimmer. Both of you are still injured." Angella protested. "Mom, I'm fine. Besides, Adora needs us to help her out, show her the lay of the land." Glimmer objected. "Yeah, she's not really used to life outside the Fright Zone." Bow nodded. "I'd hate to argue with you, Your Majesty, but Glimmer and Bow have a point." Adora said "I've had practically no experience with any culture aside from the Horde. I'd probably make a fool out of myself. " Angella sighed. "Fine, but be careful. If there is any sign that a fight will happen, leave, understand?" "Yes, Your Majesty." Adora and Bow said. "Yes, Mom." Glimmer sighed. Alright, it looks like we're going to a party."...

If you haven't done so already start saving all of your custom postings, your rules, your various commentary to outside sources like word or whatever because once the mandatory switch to the new group format you will lose all of it. Trust me, I know, I have 3 groups so I found out the hard way with the first group.

Holding out and not migrating will accomplish nothing. DA will force you to change and you will lose all your custom items.

Switching from Monarchy to Democracy at the end of Revolution was too much. Adding a High Council would've been less extreme.

What if... Adam rejected the Power?

Interesting question.

In the MYP 2002 series he did, initially.
But, when faced with his father's abduction and death at the hands of Skeletor, he returned to Grayskull and took up the Sword - thus fulfilling his destiny.

There could be other reasons he'd feel like giving up. For example...
  1. People thinking he's unfit for the throne and that He-Man should rule instead.
  2. Ungrateful people complaining about damage from a rescue.
  3. People who berate him for letting Skeletor and his goons live.
  4. Anti-Royal fanatics treating him and his parents like dirt.
  5. Having to keep his secret from Teela and his father.

All those reasons have validity, of course, though the most potent one is certainly the third.
To slay Skeletor (even if possible) would not be in accordance with the self-control, humanity and compassion which makes him worthy of wielding the Power.  He isn't a killer - nor does he need to be, given the strength that the Power imbues him with.
But, from those who do not see or understand that - and see only Skeletor 'getting away' with his crimes, it would draw responses of anger and incomprehension.   And that would be hard to withstand, since the truth would not necessarily placate them.

An intriguing conumdrum.

I have a theory that Man-E-Faces was kidnapped and forcefully turned into a cyborg. He couldn't have been born like that.
